We hired Rio for three weeks from the beginning of October. Our party consisted of three adults and one child (4) The first thing we noticed was how quiet the engine was compared to similar boats we'd hired in the past. It also proved to be extremely economical. We found no problem with the double bed in the centre cabin (but then myself and partner are fairly slim), The lavatory compartment is also on the small side, but I'd rather that than it being incorporated in the shower room. The galley has been ompletely refitted with new stainless-steel cooker and has plenty of storage. There is a flat-screen tv and dvd player and a radio in the saloon. The warm-air heating was extremely efficient (a ten-minute burst in the morning was all that was needed to warm up the boat) and we found that by closing the vents in the bedrooms, we only needed to run the heating for about 10 minutes an hour at night. If you want out and out luxury, then this probably isn't the right choice for you, but, in my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find better value for money

We did our first Broads holiday on Rio in June. We were expecting an old clapped-out boat (as we had booked the cheapest one we thought we would fit in) so were pleasantly surprised to find a recently refitted and re-engined boat! Nothing else to compare with but found handling generally very easy, even for complete boating beginners like us, reasonably well equipped but missing a few key kitchen items (though we coped without). The boat was fairly comfortable, heated up well with air blown heating but did get cold at night - especially in the lounge which had several permanent vents! The double cabin was pretty laughable. The double bed is a caravan sized one (which I expected) but the last foot of it along one side was underneath an overhang, with very little space. Nice and comfy for one, two wouldn't get much sleep. Back in Oct in a Clear Gem, which has the double turned round the other way - will see how that compares!
